FAQs
Should I ever sit again?
Yes, of course. You have heard the phrase, “ Sit down. Take a load off. ” This is how we should think of sitting – as something you do to take a break from standing and walking. Make sitting the exception to how you spend your day, not the majority of how you spend it.
What the heck is an adjustable-height desk?
An adjustable-height desk is one that has a mechanism to move the desk to different heights. A Rebel Desk will have a crank on it that you can turn to move the desk from a sitting height to a standing height, whether you are 5 feet tall or 6 feet tall. You can change the height without taking everything off of your desk so it is easy to adjust the height throughout the day.
Do I need to stand or walk all day?
No, you don’t have to stand at your desk all day or walk on the treadmill all day. Keep in mind the mantra of “ everything in moderation.” A good goal is to walk or stand for most of the day and sit when you need a break or a task requires sitting.
How fast should I go on the treadmill?
The Rebel Treadmill is designed so that you cannot go any faster than 2 mph. That may seem really slow but that is all the faster that you need to walk to keep active and keep working. Most people will walk even slower than 2 mph.
Will I get sweaty?
Although we can’t comment on your personal sweating proclivities, you should not get sweaty while walking on the treadmill. You will walk very slowly, slower than you typically walk. It is not so much exercise as it is slow activity to keep the body moving.
Do I have to wear running or athletic shoes on the treadmill?
No, you don’t have to wear running or athletic shoes but you do not want to wear your favorite high heels either. You can walk in comfortable flat shoes or even shoes with a very small heel. There are lots great looking shoes out there that are designed to be comfortable and easy for walking. If you wear the right kind of shoes to work, you should not even have to change them if you want to start your treadmill.
Is this just a fad?
Nope. Just like we cannot imagine an airplane where people smoke, in 15 years we won’t be able to image an office where your only option is to sit all day. The evidence is clear: sitting is bad for you. And the answer is obvious: standing and walking desks.
