Tips for Getting Started With an Adjustable Desk

If you have made the switch to one of Rebel Desk’s adjustable desks, we have a few tips to help you ease into life on your feet.

1 - Take It Slow

You’ve made the great decision to buy an adjustable desk rather than a stationary standing-height desk. In the first few days of using your desk, take advantage of the sitting position. That might seem like surprising advice coming from standing advocates, but your body is used to sitting all day and needs some time to adjust to a new way of working.

Glass TopTry 30 minutes of standing and 30 minutes of sitting a few times during the day. Add a little more standing time each day. Pretty quickly, you will get a sense of how much time you want to spend standing. Eventually it might be for several hours, but no need to try that right away.

2 - Check Your Monitor Height

While your legs and back are feeling great because you’re on your feet, make sure that your neck doesn’t suffer. Place your standing desk at a height that prevents neck strain. If you want to raise the monitor up to eye level, you might want to add a monitor arm to the back of the desk.

3 - Consider an Anti-Fatigue Mat

Depending on the surface that you stand on, you might want to invest in an anti-fatigue mat. Anti-fatigue mats can help reduce the pressure on your feet and increase the amount of time that you stand. We’ve used the Genuine Joe Anti-Fatigue Mat ourselves and love the product.
